Minneapolis Public Schools students and staff are eligible to enter a haiku contest sponsored by the Minneapolis-Ibaraki Sister City Association (MISCA). Ibaraki is located next to Osaka, Japan, and is one of Minneapolis' Sister Cities. The contest is open to all MPS students and staff, and will be judged by members of the MISCA. Haiku originated in Japan and are three-line poems containing five, seven, and five syllables respectively. Haiku often refer to the seasons of the year and should evoke images in nature.
